• 55 indicates the sidewall height, expressed as a percentage of the width. In this example, the calculation is : 205 x 0,55 = 112,75 mm. The sidewall is therefore approximately 113 mm high.
• R means that the tyre has a radial construction.
• 16 is the diameter of the wheel rim, expressed in inches.
• 91 is the load index. In this example, it corresponds to a maximum load of 615 kg per tyre.
• V is the speed rating. In this example, it indicates a maximum approved speed of 240 km/h.

On some vehicles, particularly sports cars, powerful vehicles or vehicles fitted with different rim widths, the front and rear tyres may have different sizes.
