Since 2001, Pneus Online has been driving with you

Over 25 years of expertise to help you choose the right tyre

Search for car tyres by size or vehicle, then compare available models by season, load rating, speed rating, EU tyre label, driver reviews and budget. Pneus Online helps you choose suitable tyres for cars, SUVs, 4x4s and light vans.

Choosing the right car tyres: Pneus Online reference points

Two tyres with the same size are not always equivalent. Start with the approved fitment, then check the exact tyre version, season and performance profile that matches your driving.

1. Check the full tyre specification

A marking such as 205/55 R16 is not always enough. Check the load rating, speed rating and any vehicle requirements such as XL, Run Flat, manufacturer approval, staggered fitment or special load capacity.
Two tyres can have the same width, aspect ratio and diameter without being intended for the same configuration.
Our tips: load and speed ratings explained

2. Compare truly equivalent versions

The same model may appear several times in the same size. For example:

The same model may exist in several versions within one size. Before comparing price or label values, check the whole specification line; the cheapest version is not always the right one for your vehicle.
Before comparing prices or label values, check the full specification line: the cheapest version is not necessarily the one that matches your car.

3. Use the EU tyre label as a first filter

The EU label covers energy efficiency, wet braking and external noise. It does not directly rate mileage, comfort, dry handling, aquaplaning resistance or steering precision.
It is therefore a first filter, to be completed with tests, manufacturer information and feedback from drivers using the tyre in conditions close to yours.

4. Choose for the journeys you really make

City driving, motorway use, wet roads or a regularly loaded vehicle all create different priorities. The right tyre is the one that fits your use, not only your budget.
Annual mileage also matters: drivers covering many miles may give more importance to wear, noise and rolling resistance.
There is therefore no single best tyre for everyone, but a balance that better matches each use.

5. Summer, winter or all-season tyres

Summer tyres are suitable for mild and warm conditions.
Winter tyres remain suited to cold weather and demanding winter conditions.
All-season tyres can simplify equipment for drivers facing moderate winters, provided the 3PMSF marking is checked when journeys pass through areas with winter equipment rules.
In the UK, the right choice depends on wet roads, motorway mileage, rural winter trips and any journeys to mainland Europe where local winter rules may apply.

Pneus Online data for a different way to compare

Pneus Online combines technical data, detailed filters and driver reviews so you can compare more than brand and price alone.

More than 860 tyres rated by drivers in our test and review database

In the car tyre tests and reviews area, Pneus Online lists 864 car tyre references.
Drivers can compare them using nine criteria:

  • Dry road
  • Wet road
  • Snow
  • Road holding
  • Driving comfort
  • Wear/mileage ratio
  • Noise level
  • Value for money and average rating

These reviews complement the European label with real-use criteria that do not appear on it.

Frequently asked questions before buying tyres

Where should I check the correct size before ordering?

Read the full marking on the tyre sidewall and check all four wheels. Some vehicles use different front and rear sizes. Also verify load and speed ratings, XL, Run Flat or manufacturer approval markings.

Can I replace only two tyres?

Yes, provided both tyres on the same axle are replaced. Newer or less worn tyres should preferably be fitted at the rear to maintain better stability, especially on wet roads. For four-wheel-drive vehicles, check the manufacturer's recommendations.

Can I fit different tyre brands front and rear?

The two tyres on the same axle should be the same type. In practice, choose the same model, version, size and ratings. Different models may be possible between front and rear if the vehicle allows it, but a consistent set usually gives more predictable behaviour.

Is an all-season tyre marked only M+S enough for winter trips?

Not always. Winter tyres are not generally required in the UK, but mainland European countries may apply specific winter equipment rules. For mountain or overseas journeys, check the 3PMSF marking and local requirements before travelling.

Is manufacturer approval always required?

Not always. Markings such as AO, MO, star, N0 or T0 identify versions developed for specific manufacturers or vehicles. Check recommendations carefully for sports cars, SUVs, four-wheel-drive models or Run Flat fitments.

Can tyres be delivered directly to a fitting centre?

Yes. Enter your postcode during checkout and choose a partner fitting centre that accepts delivery and fitting. Your tyres are shipped directly there; you then arrange the appointment.

Is fitting included in the tyre price?

No, unless explicitly stated in an offer. Tyre price and fitting service are separate. Each partner fitting centre sets its own rates, so check its page before selecting it.

Are tyres protected if they are punctured after purchase?

Car tyres bought with the warranty may benefit from 12-month protection against puncture and vandalism, according to the warranty conditions. Keep the requested documents and report the claim via the online form.
