The Nokian WR D4 is a winter tyre that is the first of its kind to provide a wet grip, the tyre has been rated "A" for its wet grip and provides a risk-free and comfortable driving experience in both wet and snowy conditions. With the aim of producing a tyre that could weather the temperamental climates in Europe, Nokian developed the WR D4 that can effectively disperse the water and slush in wet climes just as efficiently as it handles snowy driving surfaces. The WR D4 has the Nokian Block Optimized Siping. The tread pattern includes a continuous central siped strip of tread, called the Steering Precision Rib. This area gives the tyre an excellent steering precision and controlled handling. This central rib is hemmed in by angled tread blocks, called the Snow Performance Block. This block provides the requisite grip in snowy conditions. The outer tread includes hollow pump sipes, called Stiff Handling Blocks, that gives your vehicle an improved handling while braking and rounding corners. Each of the tread components in the pattern gives the tyre its excellent grip in both snowy and wet conditions and help prevent aquaplaning. The shoulder tread blocks have jagged chamfers that give the tyre an additional grip when the vehicle rounds corners and while driving in deep snow. The slanted grading on the back-edge of the tread block helps prevent aquaplaning and sideplaning. The grading directs the water and slush out of the grooves in the tread pattern. The tyre is constructed from natural rubber that contains three different compounds and “twin-trac” silica. The twin-trac silica rubber combines the Nokian Hakkapeliitta rubber that is capable of handling the harsh Northern European weather and a silica-based compound that can handle the milder weather. With the Nokian Silent Sidewall Technology, a special rubber compound between the sidewall and the tread actively dampens the sounds and vibrations from the road. This gives the tyre a 69dB noise rating.
