Two bikers from La Côte will participate in the Dakar.
The "Dakar" has many fans. Among these, two bikers from the area: Jean-Luc Fonjallaz and Guy Moinon. They will be on the starting line in Lisbon on January 1st. They will leave for over 9,000 km on the African tracks, the half of which will be "special" races.
28th Dakar for two bikers from La Côte.
"This is a dream come true".
Jean-Luc Fonjallaz from Prangins and Guy Moinon from Rolle will be in Lisbon on the 1st of January with their motorbikes to take part in this mythical rally. They have been preparing for this for months.
This is the third time I am taking part in this race, says Jean-Luc Fonjallaz. But I have never been able to reach Dakar. Two years ago I was exhausted; my bike was not reliable and I spent nights repairing it. Last year I had an electrical breakdown in Mauritania which made me stop the race. This time, I hope I'll make it!
Jean-Luc Fonjallaz hopes to achieve a good ranking by embarking on this awe-inspiring race. He has the competitive spirit!
Although both drivers are sponsored, they are racing in the "amateur" category. They cannot count on anyone else than themselves in case of breakdown. This is the hardest, explains Jean-Luc. After a day of driving under extreme conditions, we have to repair our bikes on our own. All this results in less sleep. Physical preparation is therefore essential. Running, montain biking, body-building, and, of course, training with the motorbike are on the menu of both drivers.
