The Dunlop Winter Sport 5 is a winter tyre which is the fifth model in Dunlop's winter tyre series. It succeeds the Winter Sport 4D which had seen a considerable success in the market. The tyre features an increased number of tread blocks than its predecessors, The additional edges in the tread allows for a better contact with the road's surface, resulting in improved traction in snow. The sipes in the pattern are angled and longer which allows them to exercise an excellent grip even on slippery surfaces. The depth of the grooves in the tread pattern accounts for the tyre's capacity to remove the excess quantity of water and reduce the risk of aquaplaning. The tyres also feature Dunlop's multiple blade system, which gives the tyre a consistent and efficient performance in varying winter condition/s. A flatter tread profile provides a better contact with the road and delivers more stability with a quick and precise response from the tyres. The Winter Sport 5 is also incorporated with Dunlop's “Run On Flat” Technology, which causes the tyre to run for a minimum distance of 80 km even after a tyre puncture or blowout. This is made possible by the tyre's reinforced sidewalls which keep the tyre mobile even in conditions of low tyre pressure. The rubber used in the Winter Sport 5 contains a silica-plus compound that facilitates an excellent braking and acceleration performance and extends the resistance of the tyre to wear and tear. Dunlop's Multi-Radius Tread design (MRT) uses 10 different radii in the tread pattern, which gives the tyre an excellent wet and dry handling, especially when rounding corners. A profile of rubber that lines the circumference of the tyre above the wheel flange – called Maximum Flange Shield - protects the tyre from kerbing.
